Ishraque supporters stage sit-in neat Matsa Bhaban in capital.

Dhaka, May 21 – Supporters of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain on Tuesday continued their protest for the seventh consecutive day at Matsya Bhaban intersection demanding his swearing in as DSCC mayor.

Vehicular movement on roads adjacent to Matsya Bhaban came to halt, forcing commuters to use alternative routes.

Leaders and activists of BNP started gathering at key points including the High Court gate, Press Club, and Shikkha Bhaban intersection before converging in front of Matsya Bhaban.

Abu Sayed Gazi, sports secretary of Ward 18 of New Market BNP, said, “We will continue our movement until the oath-taking takes place. The verdict was supposed to be announced today, but it wasn’t. It would be tomorrow. Until then, we will remain here.”

Shahin Hossain, acting secretary of Ward 15 Dhanmondi BNP, said, “We are holding our protests peacefully. It will continue until the expected judgment is delivered. However, we are trying to minimise public inconvenience as much as possible.”

Ashiq, another demonstrator, said, “We are ordinary citizens and supporters of Ishraque bhai. We will remain here until the verdict is announced.”

The supporters began their protest last Wednesday demanding that Ishraque Hossain be sworn in and handed over the responsibilities of the DSCC mayor.

They also issued an ultimatum until 10 am today to fulfill their demand. - UNB
