Work on Teesta Master Plan to start in 2027: Forhad
State Minister for Water Resources Forhad Hossain Azad, MP, has said work on the Teesta Master Plan (TMP) project will begin in 2027.
"This is the government's election promise, and its implementation will alleviate the long-standing suffering of millions of people in the northern region," he said.
The state minister made the remarks while speaking as chief guest at a programme held in Chilahati town of Domar upazila in Nilphamari on Wednesday afternoon, marking Eid-e-Miladunnabi (PBUH).
He said the government is working to create opportunities for people in the region to engage in agriculture, fish farming and duck rearing, adding that the Teesta Master Plan would help make them self-reliant.
Referring to the fertilizer situation, Forhad alleged that the opposition was trying to tarnish the government's image by creating an artificial fertilizer crisis.
He said fertilizer dealers appointed during the previous Awami League government were still operating and announced that one dealer would be appointed in each union through the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) to ensure easy access to fertilizer for farmers.
He also called on law enforcement agencies to take action against anyone selling fertilizer at inflated prices.
At the programme, the state minister urged everyone to work together in accordance with the ideals of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).
Domar UNO Shayla Sayeed Tanvi, Officer-in-Charge of Domar Police Station Md Habibullah, former Domar upazila BNP president Md Reazul Islam Kalu and others attended the event, reports BSS.
