Although November has begun, the expected winter chill has yet to arrive in Bangladesh. However, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast several cold waves over the next three months, with the possibility of multiple cyclones forming over the Bay of Bengal.

In its November outlook, the department said the country could receive below-normal rainfall this month.

Two to three low-pressure systems may form over the Bay of Bengal in November, with one or two potentially intensifying into cyclones, according to the forecast.

The outlook, signed by meteorologist Md. Mominul Islam, also said day and night temperatures could gradually decline, although they may remain above normal overall.

Light to moderate fog may occur in some parts of the country, including river basins, from late night to morning during November.

The department expects the major rivers to maintain their normal flow during the month.

Cold Wave Forecast Through January

In its three-month outlook, the department said four to six mild to moderate cold waves could sweep across Bangladesh by January. Two to three of these may intensify into severe cold waves.

Normal rainfall is expected across the country during this period.

The department also forecast that two to four low-pressure systems could form over the Bay of Bengal through January, with one or two potentially developing into cyclones.

Dense fog in December and January may narrow the difference between day and night temperatures, making the cold feel more intense, the outlook said. Despite the expected chill, average day and night temperatures could remain above normal.
