Mild to severe cold wave is sweeping over 48 districts of Bangladesh. In some places, the temperature has dropped to 5 degrees Celsius, according to information was given by the Meteorological Department on Sunday.

Severe cold has brought sufferings to poor people who live in tin-shed homes or thatched cottages and cannot afford blankets, quilts or warm winter garment.  

The lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 5 degrees Celsius in Panchagarh's Tetulia on Sunday morning. This was the lowest temperature of the season. Besides, the minimum temperature was recorded 5.3 degrees Celsius in Dinajpur and 6 degrees Celsius in Saidpur.

Mild to severe cold wave is sweeping over eight districts of Rangpur division, eight in Rajshahi, 13 districts in Dhaka, 10 districts in Khulna and six districts of Barishal division including Comilla, Sitakunda and Moulvibazar districts, said Meteorologist Mohammad Abdur Rahman Khan.

According to the forecast of BMD, weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country.

A ridge of sub-continental high extends up to West Bengal and adjoining area. Seasonal low lies over South Bay, extending its trough to North Bay.

Moderate to thick fog may occur at places over the river basins and light to moderate fog at places elsewhere over the country during midnight to morning.

Inland river transport may disrupt at places due to thick fog. Night and day temperature may rise slightly over the country.
