Bhola , Jan 15 - The Forest Department has rescued a rare species of olive ridley sea turtle weighing about 35 kg while it was stuck in the mud while laying eggs in Manpura upazila of Bhola.
The turtle was released into the water after being rescued from Kada Char on the bank of the Meghna River near Ishwarganj of the upazila on Monday morning.
Aminul Islam, wildlife and biodiversity conservation officer of the Bhola Forest Department, confirmed the matter.
Rashedul Islam, range officer of Monpura Forest Department, said a team of the forest department rescued the turtle from the bank of the Meghna River on the east side of the Ishwarganj area of the upazila around 9:45 am on Monday.
Later, at 10:30 am, the turtle was released in a healthy condition in the Meghna River beside the Janglar canal in the Char Jamshed area of Hajir Hat Union, he said.
He also said, three sea turtles of the olive ridley species have been rescued in a span of 21 days in Monpura. - UNB
