A Dhaka court on Tuesday sentenced youth Arif to life-term
imprisonment in case filed against him on the charge raping a ten-grader in
Kazlerpar area of Jatrabari Police Station in the city.
On Tuesday, the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 of Dhaka passed order in presence of the convict. Judge AM Julfiquar of the tribunal also fined the accused Tk 20,000, in default he will suffer six months more in the prison. Besides, as the allegations were not proved against two of the accused, they were acquitted in the case.
Of the 16 witnesses, 11 testified in the case.
On December 16, 2011, Jatrabari Police Station SI Mazharul Islam submitted the charge sheet of the case accusing three people including two girlfriends of the victim to the court. The two girlfriends are Fatema Akter Shanta and Arifa Akter Eti. On October 8, 2012, the court framed charges against three accused.
On August 6, 2011, victim’s father filed the case with Jatrabari Police Station against three people.
The case dossier says, on July 31, 2011, the victim locked into altercations with the accused in the locality. Later, to take the revenge of the incident, the accused took the victim to a house, on her way to her school. She was given chocolates to take there.
Taking the chocolates she felt very uneasy and
sick, when Arif raped her and prior to that other two accused left the spot.
Arif filmed his indecent activities. Later, he threatened the victim and drove
her from out of the house by force. - Special Correspondent
