BNP exchanges greetings with Hindu community on Janmashtami

Dhaka, Sept 19 -- BNP leaders exchanged greetings with the Hindu community on the occasion of Janmashtami at the chairperson's Gulshan office on Tuesday afternoon.

Acting chairman Tarique Rahman joined the event over Skype from London and greeted the Hindu community.

Priests of Ramakrishna Mission and ISKCON temple in Dhaka and leaders of Bangladesh Puja Parishad attended the meeting.

Wishing Janmashtami greetings, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir highlighted the current situation in the country and said, "We are facing a difficult situation. In 1971, we fought and liberated the country. Our goal then was to create a democratic state. Today, they have destroyed that democracy and taken away our rights.”

“They have destroyed parliament, they have destroyed the judiciary, they have destroyed the administration, they have destroyed the media to establish one-party rule, they have broken everything to establish a one-person regime. Just like the way monsters destroy everything, they are destroying the whole of Bangladesh today. Today, it is our responsibility to protect this country. This is not just a BNP movement. It's a movement of all people,” said Fakhrul.

BNP standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Vice-Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Gono Forum General Secretary Subrata Chowdhury, Hindu Buddhist Christian Welfare Front President Bijon Kanti Sarkar, spoke on the occasion, among others. - UNB
