Dhaka, Mar 1 – The holy month of Ramadan will start in Bangladesh on Sunday, March 2, as the crescent moon was sighted in the sky over Bangladesh on Saturday.

The National Moon Sighting Committee, chaired by Religious Affairs Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain, made the announcement at the Islamic Foundation in Dhaka on Saturday.

This decision marks the start of the holy month, during which Muslims across the country will observe fasting and offer Tarabi prayer late in the evening every day.

The holy night of Shab-e-Qadr will be observed on the night of Thursday, March 27.

This holiest night in Islam, known for its spiritual importance, is a time for heightened devotion and prayer for Muslims.

Ramadan, also called Ramzan in Bangladesh, is the ninth month in the Hizri calendar. It is a time when Muslims around the world focus on fasting, prayers, giving help the poor and near ones. The month ends with the sighting of the Saban moon and celebration of the Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims.

All government, semi-government and private offices have arranged new office schedule during the month of Ramadan.
