Workers block road in Gazipur demanding salary hikeReadymade garment workers blocked Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Mouchak Telirchala area under Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur demanding a raise in salaries.

The workers from a shoe and five medicine factories also joined the protest program. They took to the streets at around 9am causing huge traffic jams in the area. Police are on the move to restore traffic control in the area.

Factory workers and police said that demanding a minimum basic salary of Tk 15,000, the workers of Purbani Group's Karim textile factory in Telirchala area staged the protest by stopping work on Monday morning (October 23).

Meanwhile, workers from Logos Apparel, Hydro Oxide Sweater factory, APS Apparel, Bay Foot ware joined the protest program. At one stage, the workers blocked Dhaka-Tangail highway.

Shahidul Islam, Inspector of Mouchak police outpost in Kaliakair confirmed the matter.
