Workers clash with police in Gazipur, 10 hurt

At least 10 people, including police members, were injured in clashes with workers in Gazipur's Kaliakoir on Monday morning.

It is learned that several clashes have broke out between the factory workers and policemen from 8am to 11am. Dhaka-Tangail highway turned into a battlefield following the clashes. Vehicular movement on both sides remained halted.

Some 15-20 vehicles were vandalised. Some nearby shops were closed as panic gripped the people.

Police, workers and locals said that for the last four days, the workers of 10-12 industrial establishments in Mouchak area have been protesting for the last three days to increase their wages as per the government-announced scale.

Hundreds of workers of an industrial establishment of Mandal group took to the street in Mouchak area on Monday morning for the fourth consecutive day and blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway.
