27 Killed as Bus Plunges Into Ravine in Algeria

At least 27 people were killed and 39 others injured after a passenger bus plunged into a ravine in Algeria's Boumerdès Province, authorities said.

The accident occurred near El Karma, around 50 kilometres east of the capital, Algiers, while the bus was travelling from the eastern city of Sétif.

Emergency responders launched a large-scale rescue operation, recovering victims from the crash site and transporting the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Authorities have opened an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. No immediate details were available on what led to the bus veering off the road.

Road accidents are a persistent problem in Algeria, where speeding, poor road conditions and traffic violations contribute to a high number of fatalities each year.
