US Energy Secretary Chris Wright says Washington is “strangling” Iran’s “economy to try to bring either a change in policy from the existing regime or a new regime”.
Wright told CBS News’s Face the Nation that the US military’s “biggest role” was preventing Iran from exporting crude oil, petroleum products, natural gas and other energy-related goods.
He also said Washington remained open to an agreement with Tehran, reports AL Jazeera.
“We are always ready to make a deal,” Wright said, adding that Trump’s goal was to seek a negotiated solution and resort to military action only when “absolutely necessary”.
