Yemen’s displaced families flock to overcrowded camps
People who have been displaced by the recent fighting in western Yemen have fled to overcrowded camps in the Dar Saad district in the southern city of Aden.
“We were forced to flee suddenly. You could barely take your children and a few essentials with you,” said Hussein Haydara, who has been displaced from Hodeidah.
“We were terrified of the shelling and sniper fire… you just flee as quickly as you can out of fear for your children and your family.”
Another displaced person, who did not wish to be named, said they had never experienced conflict like this.
“We left Al-Khawkhah at around midnight, and the Houthis entered 2am. From Mokha, we went to Dubab, and from Dubab to Bab al-Mandab.
“We had never experienced a war like this before. We have no clothes, no food, nothing at all. We don’t even have money.”
The UN migration agency said that the number of those displaced in Yemen has reached nearly 86,000 people, with more than 82,000 displaced since the start of the month, reports AL Jazeera.
