Iran has not received a response from Saudi Arabia or Yemen’s Houthis to its offer to help mediate talks to end the fighting between them, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

In an interview with Iraq’s al-Ekhbariya TV, Araghchi also responded to the possibility of Egypt joining Saudi Arabia in the war against the Houthis, saying that an intervention would “further complicate the situation”.

Araghchi said Cairo previously told Tehran it would not “directly interfere” in the fighting in Yemen.

Egypt has said it is ready to provide “all necessary and possible support” to Saudi Arabia following the intensified Houthi strikes on the kingdom earlier this month.

A vote on authorising Egypt’s armed forces to support Saudi Arabia was delayed until October 26 by the Egyptian parliament, reports AL Jazeera.
