Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister, Prince Khalid bin Salman Al Saud, said he discussed the latest regional developments with his US counterpart, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, during a telephone conversation.
In a statement shared on social media, the Saudi defence minister said the discussions focused on strengthening strategic defence cooperation between the two countries, as well as addressing growing security challenges in the Middle East.
“I reviewed the prospects for strategic defence cooperation between our two friendly nations. We also discussed regional and international developments, foremost among them were efforts to de-escalate and contain tensions in the region,” Khalid bin Salman said.
The two defence chiefs also discussed attacks carried out by Yemen’s Houthi movement against Saudi Arabia, reflecting ongoing concerns over threats to the kingdom’s security and stability.
The Houthis, an armed group based in Yemen, have previously launched missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi territory, raising concerns about the wider security situation across the region.
The conversation comes amid continuing regional tensions and diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation. Saudi Arabia and the United States have maintained close defence and security ties, with cooperation focusing on regional security, military coordination and countering emerging threats.
Although no specific agreements or new military measures were announced following the phone call, the discussion underscores the importance both countries place on defence cooperation and diplomatic efforts to contain regional tensions.
The latest talks also highlight the shared interest of Riyadh and Washington in preventing further instability and addressing security threats that could affect the wider Middle East.
