At least 18 paramilitary personnel were killed and three others seriously injured in a brutal ambush in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province on Saturday, according to police and local officials. The attack occurred near the town of Mangochar, when a vehicle carrying unarmed members of the Frontier Corps paramilitary force was targeted by a large group of assailants.

The attackers, numbering between 70 and 80, blocked the road before opening fire on the vehicle, killing 17 of the paramilitary officers inside and one additional officer who attempted to come to their aid.

A police official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed the details of the assault and noted that the situation remains tense in the region. The attackers reportedly used automatic weapons in the ambush.

This deadly attack underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by Pakistan’s security forces in Balochistan, a region that has seen frequent violence linked to separatist movements and militant groups. The Frontier Corps, which is tasked with maintaining security in Balochistan, has often been a target of such assaults, with tensions in the province continuing to rise in recent years.

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the attack and are working to identify the perpetrators, but no group has claimed responsibility for the ambush as of yet. The assault is the latest in a series of violent incidents in the region, highlighting the instability that continues to plague the area.
