The attack occurred in Harnai, a district in Balochistan province, according to Wali Kakar, a government administrator. Police quickly transported the victims to the hospital, and investigations are ongoing.
The majority of the victims hailed from the northwestern Swat Valley and other areas of the country, authorities confirmed.
Both Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and provincial officials condemned the attack, urging local authorities and police to track down and apprehend those responsible for the deaths of the innocent miners.
While no group has claimed responsibility, suspicions point to the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist group previously blamed for similar attacks on laborers in the region.
Balochistan, rich in oil and minerals, has long been a hotbed of insurgency, with multiple separatist groups launching attacks against security forces and civilians in their pursuit of independence. The province also hosts several active militant organizations.
