The number of workers missing after a high-rise construction site collapse in Bangkok has risen to 81, according to Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister. Initially reported at 70, the number of missing workers continues to grow, signaling the gravity of the situation, reports BBC.

The disaster occurred during a 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar, sending powerful tremors across neighboring Thailand. The earthquake's tremors reached Bangkok, where a high-rise under construction was severely damaged.

Thailand’s Public Health Minister, Somsak Thepsuthin, confirmed that around 409 workers were at the site when the building collapsed. As of now, three deaths have been reported, with Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt warning of possible aftershocks. However, he reassured the public that authorities were working hard to contain the situation, which remains under control for the moment.

The Thai government has launched a coordinated emergency response, mobilizing search and rescue teams to the site. Disaster centers have been activated to prepare relief equipment and machinery. Additionally, a field hospital has been set up nearby to treat survivors, though the full extent of casualties is still unclear.

The collapse is one of the most severe consequences of the earthquake in Thailand. In response, Bangkok has been declared a disaster area, with widespread damage to high-rise buildings throughout the capital. Emergency services continue to search through the rubble, racing against time to locate those still trapped beneath the debris.
