Iran's FM Heads to Oman for Nuclear Talks with US
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will travel to Oman on Friday to participate in a third round of indirect nuclear talks with the United States, following signs of progress in the previous sessions.
Araghchi will lead a high-level diplomatic and technical delegation for the negotiations, which are scheduled to take place on Saturday. The talks are being facilitated by Oman, which previously hosted discussions in Muscat and Rome beginning April 12.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei confirmed that the discussions will involve both political and technical experts. The U.S. delegation will be led by Steve Witkoff, President Donald Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East.
Technical negotiations will be headed by Michael Anton, Director of Policy Planning at the U.S. State Department, and on the Iranian side, Deputy Foreign Ministers Kazem Gharibabadi and Majid Takht-Ravanchi.
Baqaei emphasized on Friday that “progress in the negotiations requires goodwill, seriousness, and realism from the other side.”
In an interview earlier this week, Araghchi stated, “Iran will enter the negotiations seriously on Saturday, and if the other party does the same, there is real potential for progress.”
The diplomatic push follows a letter sent by President Trump to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in March, encouraging dialogue but also warning of potential military consequences should diplomacy fail.
