Heavy Rains Kill At Least 23 Across Mexico
At least 23 people have died in Mexico this week due to heavy rains, authorities reported Friday.
Mexico's civil protection agency said intense rainfall affected 31 of the country’s 32 states, with the hardest-hit areas being Veracruz in the east, Queretaro and Hidalgo in the center, and San Luis Potosi in the north-central region.
Hidalgo reported 16 deaths and damage to around 1,000 homes. Puebla recorded five deaths, with 11 people still missing. A child died in Veracruz, and a police officer lost their life in Queretaro.
President Claudia Sheinbaum wrote on X that authorities are working to support affected communities, reopen roads, and restore power. The military has been deployed to distribute aid in the hardest-hit regions.
