3 languishing in jail without trial get HC bail

The High Court on Monday asked the trial court to dispose of cases filed against three prisoners, who have been languishing in jails without trial for long, within three months.

An HC bench of Justice AKM Abdul Hakim and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman passed the order granting bail to the three prisoners.

The court also fixed March 6 for the next hearing.

Those who were granted bail are Dana Miah, Asadul alias Asa and Saju Miah.

Chanchal Kumar Chowdhury, a panel lawyer of Supreme Court Legal Aid Committee, drew the attention of the court about the eight prisoners who have been serving in different jails in several cases without trial on February 14.

On February 15, the High Court issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why the eight prisoners should not be granted bail. It also asked to produce the prisoners before the court on February 27.

Following the HC order, seven prisoners were produced before the court today.
