Ansarullah chief’s trial starts


The trial of Mufti Jasihmuddin Rahmani, the chief of extremist ‘Ansarullah Bangla Team’ began on Monday.
Thirty others are also up in the dock facing trial with him.
Additional District and Sessions Judge of Barguna District Court Abu Shamim started hearing the case against Rahmani and his associates.
The case is filed under section 292/124-ka of Information and Communication Technology Act.Rahmani along with two others militants was produced before the court at 10am from Barguna jail.
Detectives said he was a follower of the US-born Yemeni Al Qaeda leader Anwar Al-Awalaki.
Al-Awalaki was killed in Yemen in an American drone attack on Sept 30, 2011.
They said Rahmani had become particularly active in the last five years.
On Aug 12, 2013, Barguna district police arrested Mufti Jasihmuddin Rahmani along with 30 followers from a house at South Khajurtola.
His followers allegedly killed blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider near his Mirpur residence in Dhaka on Feb 15 last year.
They also attempted to kill blogger Asif Mohiuddin but Asif barely survived.
