B’baria Hindu temple attackers to be brought to book: AL


Dhaka  – Awami League (AL) joint general Mahbubul Alam Hanif on Tuesday said those involved in the attack on Hindu minority establishments in Brahmanbaria will be brought to book.“The government has formed two investigation committees with a view to digging out proper information about the Brahmanbaria incident to bring the culprits to book,” he said,UNB News Agency Reported.The ruling party leader said this while addressing a press conference at AL president’s Dhanmondi political office in the city.Around 150-200 people desecrated at least five temples and ransacked about one hundred houses in Haripur union of Nasirnagar upazila in Brahmanbaria on Sunday allegedly over a Facebook post demeaning the holy Kaaba.Hanif said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has clearly said the government is respectful to all religions and wouldn’t tolerate attack on religious minorities creating religious furor.“Islam is a religion of peace and doesn’t approve violence. We would request all to refrain from such activities and it is law enforcement agencies which will take action in this regard,” he added.
About the exhibition of arms by two Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders during a clash with police in an eviction drive in the capital’s Gulistan area last week, Hanif said the government has given the law enforcement agencies directives to take stern action.“There is no scope to exhibit firearms whether it is legal or illegal. It is contrary to the law. AL never supports such terrorist activities,” Hanif added.About the union parishad polls which was held in 400 unions across the country on Monday, the AL joint general secretary claimed that the election was held in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
