BNP accuses govt of efforts to score electoral goal in empty field

Dhaka, Feb 19 – BNP on Monday alleged that the government wants to make a goal in empty filed but the people would not allow them to do it.“Do you (Prime Minister) want to give a goal in empty filed? The people will not accept it,” said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul while talking to reporters at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office.
He made this comments in his reaction immediately after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s press conference on the outcome of her recent visit to Italy and Vatican City.
The BNP leader termed the premier’s statement over the BNP and its chairperson “self worthless lies” and said the government held a lopsided general election in 2014 which was not acceptable.
“This time, they also want to hold another lopsided election. But election except the BNP and Khaleda Zia will not be acceptable,” he added.
Criticising the premier for talking about the BNP constitution, Mirza Alamgir questioned why she feels headache with their constitution.
Replying to another question, he said party senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman has been made party’s acting chairman following the party constitution that was adopted in the last council.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the BNP standing committee was in progress while the report was filed at 7:30pm to discuss the latest development in the political arena. – Staff Reporter
