BNP spokesperson Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon yesterday termed the Election Commission as spineless, incapable and subservient one.Addressing a press conference at party headquarters, he he regretted that the commission did not take any notice to the BNP demands and observation on civic polls.
The BNP leader argued that the party’s demand to defer the election schedule for 15 days would not have created any problem for holding the polls including about 50 lakh new voters.
“The EC cited for its reason behind not reschedule the polls due to Biswa Ijtema and HSC examination. It could have been held the polls in between the four day gaps between two subjects of the exams, if the commission had the will to reschedule the polls,” he said.
Ripon further said despite demands for ending the arrest the police have continued to detain the party’s grassroots level leaders to bar them from participating in the polls.
He condemned the killing of Meherpur district leader Ramzan in the name of crossfire and demanded for a judicial committee to probe into the incident.
Fazlul Haque Milon and Abdul Latif Jony, among others, were present at the press conference.
