BNP pays tributes to Language martyrs in the morning

Dhaka, Feb 21 – The BNP has paid tributes to the Language Movement heroes on International Mother Language Day by placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar.BNP’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that it was painful to observe the day at a time when “a grave has been dug to bury democracy”.
It’s unfortunate that we are observing the day at a time when all democratic institutions have been ruined, people have been deprived of their voting right, when there is no safety in the country and when each and every organisation, be it the judiciary or the legislative, has been tainted with nepotism, he was quoted as telling reporters at the Central Shaheed Minar.
Begum Khaleda Zia, who has fought for democracy throughout her life, is now spending days in prison because of a case fabricated against her, he added.
The party so long used to pay tributes to the Central Shaheed Minar in the first hour of International Mother Language Day on Feb 21, led by Khaleda. But this year it was different.
Fakhrul and Standing Committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain placed wreaths at the Shaheed Minar at 11am. They stood there in solemn silence for some time.
Fakhrul led the party leaders earlier in the day to say prayers at the graves of language martyrs. From there Thousands of leaders and activists marched to the Shaheed Minar.
