The International Women’s Day was observed in the country, as elsewhere across the globe, on Tuesday with a call for taking pragmatic steps to accelerate gender parity. The theme of this year’s day was ‘Pledge for Parity’.
Various organisations, including the Women and Children Affairs Ministry, observed the day with elaborate programmes.
The Women and Children Affairs Ministry organised a programme at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina spoke.
The Prime Minister stressed the need for the equal development of the country’s womenfolk as there is no scope of leaving them behind in the name of religion. “There’s no scope to push one behind or keep ignorant in the name of religion,” she said.
