Criminal’ injured in ‘gunfight’ with cops in Pabna


A suspected criminal was arrested after he was injured in a ‘gunfight’ between police and his gang at Padma Char in Ishwardi upazila early Saturday.The injured was identified as Sonamoni,32, son of late Abdus Samad of Paschim Tengri Piarkhali village of the upazila.Three policemen, including a sub-inspector, were also injured in the gunfight.Officer-in-charge of Ishwardi Police Station Biman Kumar Das said on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area to arrest Sonamoni while he was staying there at about 4:00 am.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Sonamoni and his associates opened fire at them, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate with gunfire, leaving Sonamoni bullet-hit and three policemen injured.Later, police arrested injured Sonamoni along with a pistol while his other associates managed to escape.Injured Sonamoni was first admitted to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex under police custody and later shifted to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR).A case was filed in this connection. -UNB, Pabna
