Gaibandha Public library’s centenary celebrated


Hundreds of members and associates today celebrated centenary of Gaibandha Public Library and Club (GPLC) amid much enthusiasm.
To mark the day, the Shato Barsha Purti and Avishekh Utjapon Committee chalked out an elaborate programme with the slogan “Shato Barshey Mili Aaz Praner Utshabe”.The programmes included holding of sports competition and cultural function, hoisting national and club flags, reminiscence, holding raffle draw, and ceremony of prize and crest distribution.In the morning, a colorful rally led by deputy commissioner (DC) M. Ehsan-e-Elahi and superintendent of police (SP) Ashraful Islam was brought out from the campus of the GPLC and ended at the same venue after parading the main roads of the town.Later, a discussion was also held on the premises of the GPLC with convener of the committee Dr. Shahiduzzaman Harun in the chair.DC M. Ehsan-e-Elahi addressed the meeting as the chief guest and SP Ashraful Islam, mayor of Gaibandha Pourashava M. Shamsul Alam and executive chief of Gana Unnayan Kendra M. Abdus Salam were present as the special guests.The function was also addressed, among others, by general secretary of district Awami League Abu Bakar Siddique, political leaders Shah Shariful Islam Bablu, Mihir Ghos and Advocate Shah Masud Jahangir Kabir Milan, general secretary of the GPLC Khalilur Rahman, joint secretaries Ziaul Haque Johney and Kamrul Hasan Selim, member Advocate Hanif Belal and member secretary of the utjapon committee Ranajit Bakshi Surjya.General secretary Khalilur Rahman in his welcome speech said the GPLC was established at the heart of the town in 1907 by a number of people who encouraged spread of education and distinguished persons of the town.Since then, the GPLC had been playing significant role in providing knowledge and enhancing reading habit of the youths helped building an enlightened nation. -BSS, Gaibandha
