Khaleda asks Hasina to restrain herself, her men

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday called upon Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina to restrain her tongue and behavior for the sake of development of the country.
“I would like to tell Hasina to control her hoodlums of Chhatra League as they are involved in corruption, extortion and repression. You should also restrain your behaviour and tongue,” she said while addressing the convocation of student leaders of nineties.
Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and All-Party Student Unity (Sarbodoliya Chhatra Oikya) of Nineties jointly organised the function at Institute of Engineers Bangladesh.
Khaleda’s comments came a day after the Prime Minister at her party’s function on Victory Day asked the BNP chairperson to restrain the tongue of her elder son and party senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman.Earlier on December 15, Tarique Rahman at a Victory Day function in London termed Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman a rajaker (colaborator).
Khaleda called upon the party leaders and activists to get prepared to take to the streets defying all obstructions to save the country and its people.
She said chanting slogans or applauses are not enough to remove the government,  party l eaders and activists should be ready to take to the street. “You (party activists) should not blame Dhaka city unit of BNP. The call for movement will be announced any time. The streets would not remain empty, this time,” she asserted.
The former premier called upon the police not to fire on the people of the country alleging that the Awami League government isusing them to cling to power forcibly. She asked how police can open fire on the people and cautioned that if they open fire, the men Hasina cannot protect them for ever.
“The people are ready to respond this time if fire is opened on them. I will call police not to fire even a single shot on the people,” she said adding that there is only path to protect the people from repression by taking to the street.
She alleged that the judiciary has gone under the control of ruling Awami League.
Khaleda also alleged that the judges dispose of cases seeing faces. Awami League people are relinquished even they are involved in smuggling, corruption and killings.
She recalled that the responsibility of the judges is to dispose of cases neutrally considering their merit. Whoever the criminals may be they should be punished, she added.
Khaleda demanded that cases filed against Sheikh Hasina by the last caretaker government should be revived to continue filed against the BNP people including herself. “It will not be proper to follow the directives of Hasina. You please uphold justice for the people,” she said.
The BNP chairperson reiterated her demand for disbandment of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) saying that it has turned into a killing force.
She called upon the government to immediately hold an inclusive election under a neutral administration to probe the popularity of the government by shunning killing, enforced disappearance and repression.
Khaleda accused the government of not giving permission them to hold rallies and meetings in the city and said they are afraid of people  She called upon the people irrespective of political affiliations and professions to join the movement from their respective positions to restore the right of franchise.
The BNP leader mentioned that the former students leaders had encouraged her to carry out anti-autocratic movement in nineties and said they are still prepared to sacrifice their lives for democracy, the country and its people.
She regretted that the recent oil tanker incident in the river Shela was created in a planned way to destroy the Sunderbans. Khaleda questioned the sincerity of the government as they cannot stop smuggling of huge quantity of gold through the airport and where the smuggled gold is gone.
Referring to the involvement of Civil Aviation chairman Jamaluddin in Mig-29 purchase corruption, she said how a corrupt people got the responsibility of such a institution. “It is proved that the government is involved in corruption and they get the share of smuggling,” she added.
Khaleda rejected the allegation that she had a meeting with serving government officials and alleged that the government is looking for an excuse to send efficient officials on forced retirement.
She mantioned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had a meeting with rebel leaders of BDR mutiny and said she does not see any problems if any government official visits a citizen who was elected prime minister thrice.
The situation of the country will continue to worsen till the AL government remains in power. The AL will take the country backwards,” she said. During her 40-munite speech, Khaleda also mentioned different alleged ‘misdeeds of the government’.
Earlier, while inaugurating the convocation in the morning, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also called upon the Prime Minister to restrain her language. One should always be prepared to take the response after one has attacked somebody, he said.
Presided over by BNP joint secretary  general and former VP of DUCSU Aman Ullah Aman, the function was also addressed, among others, by BNP leaders—MK Anwar, Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam KHan, Shasuzzaman Dudu, Nazimuddin Alam, Habibur Rahman Habib, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annies, Habib-Un-Nabi Khan Sohel, ABM Mosharraf Hossain and DL leader Saifuddin Ahmed Moni. – Staff Reporter
