Matin denies to confess on Tavella murder

BNP leader MA Qaiyum’s younger brother MA Matin, accused in the Italian citizen Cesare Tavella murder case denied to confess in the case on Tuesday.Later, Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed orders to send him to the jail.

Earlier, the court asked Matin to decide on whether he will confess in the case or not and he was given three hours to take decision. Before that, DB Police Inspector and also the Investigation Officer of the case Jehad Hossain produced Matin to the court to record his confessional statement. He was brought to the court on completion of a five-day remand.
Earlier, on November 5, he was first put on an eight-day remand in the case. Matin was reportedly nabbed on November 4 at Baro Aanchra, near Benapole border.

Tavella, 50, Project Manager for PROOFS (Profitable Opportunities for Food Security) of the Netherlands-based non-government organisation ‘ICCO Cooperation’, was shot dead by some miscreants in the city’s Gulshan area on September 28. The case was filed with the police station on the same day. It was transferred to DB police on September 29.
