Police have pressed charges against 38 people, including Shahjadpur municipality mayor Halimul Haque Miru and his brother Habibul Haque Mintu, in the journalist Abdul Hakim Shimul murder case.
Officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Shahjadpur Police Station Monirul Islam, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted a charge-sheet against them before the Shahjadpur Senior Judicial Magistrate Hasibul Haque in the afternoon, said OC of the police station Khawaja Golam Kibria.
Of the charge-sheeted accused, 18 are FIR-named ones while the names of others were included scrutinising video footage of the incident, he said.
Of the accused, 14 are now behind the bars, the OC added.
Meanwhile, the High Court on Tuesday granted bail to Awami League leader M Nasir for eight weeks in the murder case.
Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order following a petition.
Abdul Hakim Shimul, Shahjadpur upazila correspondent of vernacular daily the Dainik Samakal, suffered bullet wounds during a clash between activists of two associate bodies of Awami League in Shahjadpur on February 2. He later died on the way to Dhaka on February 3.
