Senior Opposition lawmaker MK Anwar on Wednesday said in Parliament that if a consensus could be reached on who will be the head of the polls-time government the problems over choosing advisers would get resolved. He made the remark standing on a point of order when senior treasury bench member Tofail Ahmed initiated a debate on the proposal of opposition MPs.
MK Anwar said it could be settled whether the advisers will be picked from the 96 and 2001 caretaker governments or outside those CGs if a decision is taken on the chief of the interim government.
Criticising the government, the former minister said it was not mentioned in the election manifesto of the ruling Awami League that it would amend the Constitution.
He also mentioned that they are in Parliament as they have been requested by the government to place their proposal in the House.
The BNP leader said it is usual to have discussion and debate in the House and a consensus can be reached even outside Parliament and a bill can be passed in the House later.
MK Anwar said steps should be taken considering people’s demand so that all parties can take part in the election. “We’ve given a proposal and a scope for discussion has been opened through it,” he told the House. – UNB
