Nor’wester lashes Mongla upazila; 15 injured


At least 15 people were injured as a nor’wester lashed six union parishad and municipality areas in Mongla upazila on Saturday afternoon.   Most of the people were injured as fishing boats on the Pashur River in the area capsized, according to witnesses.   Deputy Commissioner of the district M Shukkur Ali told UNB that the storm damaged over 300 dwelling houses, sank about 50 boats and uprooted a good number of trees in the vicinity of the river.   Mongla Upazila Nirbahi Officer M Mizanur Rahman said the storm hit Chila, the Sundarbans, Burirdanga, Mithakhali, Sonaitala and Chandpai union parishads, and the Mongla municipality area in the afternoon, leaving many areas without electricity from 2pm to 8pm.        – UNB
