Padma trawler capsize: 2 still missing


Two of the three people who went missing as two trawlers capsized in Louhajang upazila on Saturday still remain missing.The two vessels carrying 60 people sank in the Padma River amid inclement weather.Yunus Ali, in-charge of Mawa police outpost, said Jahangir, 28, one of the three victims, managed to swim ashore and reach his house.The missing two are Sohel, 25, son of Mofizuddin of Sudharpur village, and Zakir, 32, son of Abdus Sattar of Chandpur village in Bhangura upazila of Pabna.Assistant police super M Shamsuzzaman said the two sand-laden trawlers met the accident at Kumarbhog around 3:15pm due to strong currents in the river while heading towards a brick kiln at Pagla of Narayanganj from Madonkhali in Faridpur district.Of the trawlers, one sank fully while the other partially.Locals rescued 27 passengers of the sunken trawler who were floating on water with speedboats.They also rescued 30 workers of the partially capsized boat. -UNB, Munshiganj
