Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Trubunal-4 on Tuesday rejected an application of the defence counsel, seeking the change of the charges, it framed earlier against the accused of the case.
The judge-in-charge of the tribunal, Md Nuruzzaman passed the order after a lengthy hearing on the petition that sought replacing the present with the charge to be framed under Section 304 of the Penal Code.
This section says that the accused have not committed the offence intentionally while the charge was framed under the Section 302 of the Penal Code, that says, the offence committed was a preplanned.
Besides, following the plea of the prosecution, the judge directed the investigation Officer (IO) of the case and Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Tajul Islam to appear to the tribunal on Thursday and testify about some still photographs, which they submit to it.
Before this, the tribunal completed recording the depositions of prosecution witnesses including the two investigation officers of the case.
The second IO showed the judge the VDO footage of the incident. Meanwhile, the tribunal completed recording the depositions of the first IO and Sutrapur Police Station Sub-Inspector Mahbubul Alam and with him the tribunal completed recording of 31 witnesses, out of 60 witnesses in the case.
Eight accused, now in custody, were produced to the court Wednesday. They are Rafiqul Islam Shakil, Mahfuzur Rahman Nahid, Emdadul Haque Emdad, GM Rasheduzzaman Shaon, AHM Kibria, Saiful Islam, Qaiyum Mia and Golam Mostafa.
Of them Shakil, Nahid, Emdad and Shaon made confessional statements admitting their involvement in the sensational murder. The remaining thirteen accused are on the run. – Court Correspondent
