Release Manna, demands Nagorik Oikya rally

President of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) ASM Abdur Rob on Sunday accused the government of trying to elongate its stay in power by adopting different means and alleged that the present government has done the most damage to the ideal of the War of Liberation by undermining the values of democracy and exploitation-free society that it stood for.Addressing a rally organised by the Nagorik Oikya at Mirpur Section 6 he said that Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna was being held without any valid charge, and denied proper medical care only because he was promoting the case for democracy and citizen’s rights.
The rally was also addressed by BSD general secretary Khalequzzaman Bhuiyan, Biplabi Workers’ Party general secretary Saiful Huq, Nagorik Oikya leader Shahidullah Kaiser, editor of GreenWatch Dhaka paper Mostafa Kamal Majumder and senior journalist Khairul Alam Bakul among others.
The speakers said that the government has turned the country into a police state and was openly professing limited democracy for more development. They demanded release of Mahmudur Rahman Manna and unity of progressive forces to offer the people a political alternative to steer clear of grabbing of national resources. – News Desk
