RU Information Cell in a chaos


Rajshahi, 09 Jan – The Information Cell of Rajshahi University (RU) is passing through a chaotic situation though 8 years have passed after the enactment of Information and Communication Act (ICT). Information sharing activities are not being smoothly done due to manpower crisis and lack of Infrastructure and concerned people suffer as a result.No new officer has been appointed on cell and Mahiuddin Mollah is on duty officer of the cell is working beyond the tenure of his job.
It has been found that, the then administration of the university appointed Mohiuddin Mollah in this cell as information providing officer with an allotted room. But this office is now being used as Office of Insurance-related work where no scope of providing information service.
This correspondent found in the office a computer operator, one box, and a mini-cupboard.
Seeking the information of dropped out students, Rafiqul Islam a student of the university submitted an application to the then university registrar Anthajul Haque as per provisions of the ACT. But no response was found from the office.
Supian Sawri, a student of Population Science department of the university did the same for information but got no response found from the office.
Mohiuddin Mollah informed that, the RU administration assured of of steps to make the office functional. Due to lack of manpower we have to face various problems centering on the information except thosewe provide to the University Grant Commission (UGC).
Replying the question of not providing information he said, the Information Cell according to the Law is yet to be fully developed. We provide only information to the UGC what they want. If anyone seeks information from the university then we have to search for the same from the concerned departments. It causes delay until the department concerned gives response.
Admitting the matter, University Register Professor Dr. M A Bari said due to lack of manpower this cell cannot perform the function properly. This condition will be changed soon.
Replying a question on the appointment of a new officer he said, existing officer is now on pre-leisure leave. He is instructed to perform the duty till later one get appointed. – RU Correspondent
