Dhaka – A court here on Thursday sent two expelled leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in a case filed for brandishing guns during a clash with police in an eviction drive in Gulistan area of the capital.Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarafuzzaman Ansari sent the two expelled BCL leaders to jail rejecting their bail petitions.Earlier in the morning, the two accused — BCL’s Dhaka south city unit general secretary Sabbir Hossain and Wari thana unit general secretary Ashiqur Rahman — surrendered before the court and filed bail petitions in the case.On October 27 last year, hundreds of hawkers locked into a clash with police after a team of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) officials, led by an executive magistrate, tried to carry out an eviction drive against illegal structures in Gulistan area.A photo taken in the clash showed that Sabbir and Ashiqur brandished guns during the clash.Later, Sub-inspector Abdul Mannan of Shahbagh Police Station filed the case against the two expelled BCL leaders under the Arms Act.On December 4 last, a court here issued arrest warrant against the duo as they went into hiding after the incident.UNB
