Two of ‘outlawed party’ killed in reported ‘gunfight’ with Rab


Two members of the outlawed Sarbahara Party were killed and three others injured in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Maishamara village in Sadar upazila early Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Akbar Hossain,45, and Manu Miah,35, both members of the Sarbahara Party.
Akbar Hossain is also a member of Baghil union parishad.Additional superintendent of police Mahiuddin Faruki, commanding officer of Rab-12, said they had information that a group of members of the outlawed party were staying in the area for a programme, a team of the elite force conducted a drive there at about 2:00 am.
Sensing the presence of Rab members, the party members opened fire on the elite force forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.
Akbar Hossain and Manu Miah were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot and three others injured.
However, other associates managed to flee the scene.
The injured were admitted to Tangail Medical College Hospital under police custody.
Rab members recovered the bodies of Akbar and Manu and sent those to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
Sub-inspector Manirul Islam was also injured in the gunfight and admitted to the hospital from where he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Later he was taken to Combined Military Hospital, Dhaka
The elite force also recovered one foreign-made pistol, one shutter gun, two rounds of bullet and some bullet shells from the scene. UNB
