BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has supported the trials of ‘war criminals’ on principle, but blamed the special tribunals as partisan.
Addressing the BNP’s Friday rally at the Suhrawardy Udyan, Khaleda said the tribunals were ‘selectively picking’ on BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami leaders on charges of crimes against humanity.
“I am all for the spirit of the Liberation War. I agree that those who perpetrated crimes against our people during 1971 Liberation War should be punished,” Khaleda said.
“But why only pick on Opposition figures? The tribunals are just doing that,” she said. “That is why these tribunals have lost their credibility.”
As she addressed the rally, banners with pictures of Jamaat leaders convicted or prosecuted as ‘war criminals floated around the Suhrawardy Udyan , held up by Jamaat-Shibir activists who had turned up at the rally in large numbers .-bdnews24.com
