Well done, Burjeel Hospital spine surgeons!

Recently I read a news item published under the heading “Don’t ignore your child’s back pain, it could be scoliosis” in the ‘Khaleej Times’ of UAE. A 13-year old Jordanian girl was successfully operated upon her spine at Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi. The girl underwent a seven-and-a-half-hour surgery to fix 24 screws in 12 places – two screws along each of the bent vertebrae – along her back. This complex surgery was reportedly performed by Dr Firas M. Husban, consultant orthopedic surgeon along with Dr Sebouh Z. Kassis, specialist neurosurgeon at the spine unit of Burjeel Hospital. These surgeons had also performed corrective spine surgery with posterior spinal fusion on another teenage girl successfully. Both the patients are reportedly discharged from the hospital within a week after the surgery and now they are doing well and passing their first two months of recovery with cautious movement. I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to both the surgeons.
Spine surgery is a risky and expansive procedure. Highly experienced and skilled surgeons with logistic support from a best hospital can successfully performed such surgeries. Only a few number of highly skilled spine surgeons for doing such surgeries are available in the real world. As I was reading the news, I was thinking if the Burjeel Hospital could arrange some special camp to offer the opportunity to get some deserving international patients benefited by the expertise of efficient surgeons like Dr. Husban and Dr. Kassis.
