Ahmed Kamal, the youngest brother of late President Ziaur Rahman yesterday called upon all to come forward to restore democracy in the country.“The democracy promoted by the government is not the real democracy. The country is being run under a dictatorship,” he said while speaking at a milad and doa mahfil praying for the salvation of the souls of Zia’s family members including Ziaur Rahman and Arafat Rahman Koko.
Describing the country’s situation vulnerable, he called upon all to come forward to restore appropriate and healthy politics and democracy for welfare of the country.
The appearance of Kamal, who had been away from public life, created lot of speculations among the minds of people whether he was joining the politics or not.
Replying to a question whether he would join the politics, he told journalists that he would inform all if he joins the politics.
Kamal organised the milad and doa mahfil at Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh in the afternoon to pray for salvation of the departed souls of his family members including his parents Mansur Rahman and Jahanara Khatun, his brothers late President Ziaur Rahman, Rezaur Rahman, Mizanur Rahman, Khalilur Rahman and nephew Arafat Rahman Koko.
Although Ahmed Kamal belongs to the family of BNP’s founder late president Zia Rahman, party leaders did not participate in the milad and doa mahfil despite invitation to many including chairperson Khaleda Zia.
