17 BCL men held over SUST violence

Police arrested seventeen activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in connection with Thursday’s factional clash at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).
Two of the arrestees were identified as Anik and Khokon while the identities of the others could not be known.Akhtar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Jalalabad Police Station, said a team of police and detectives conducted separate drives in different areas in the city including Kuarper and Pathantula and arrested the 17 BCL men Thursday night.A revolver, 19 sharp weapons were recovered from the possession of Anik during the drive.Earlier, Sumon Das, 22, an activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was killed and 17 others were injured in a factional clash of the ruling party’s student wing over establishing supremacy on the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) campus on Thursday morning.Later, the authorities concerned of the university announced to close the University for sine die following the incident.  A three-member probe committee, headed by SUST professor Dr. Ilias Uddin, has been formed to investigate the incident. –UNB, Sylhet
