Two persons, including a woman, were killed and five others were injured as an ambulance collided head-on with a passenger bus in Sadar upazila of the district today.

The deceased were Jahanara Begum, 55, of the Pulerhat area of Jashore, and ambulance driver Akbar Hossain, 28, son of Abul Hasim of Charkolakopa village in Ramgati upazila of Lakshmipur district.

The accident occurred in the Badsha Garage Bus Stand area on the Narail-Lohagara road in the upazila, killing ambulance passenger Jahanara Begum on the spot.

Locals rescued Akbar and sent him to Narail Zila Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Police and local sources said Jahanara Begum, along with nine members of her family, was travelling from Dhaka to Jashore in an ambulance carrying the body of her late husband, Ismail Hossain.

Five of them sustained injuries and were sent to Jashore 250-Bed Hospital for treatment.

Tularampur Highway Police Station Sub-Inspector Kamrul Islam said the bus and the ambulance involved in the accident were seized, reports BSS.
