Bodies of 21 out of 49 people killed in the devastating fire at a private container depot in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram following an explosion have been handed over to their relatives.
As of Monday (June 6) morning, 21 out of 23 bodies identified have been handed over following a formal procedure.
This was confirmed from an information centre of the district administration set up in front of the emergency department of Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
Touhidul Islam, NDC at the office of the Deputy Commissioner in Chattogram district, said, “Identified bodies are being handed over to their relatives. On behalf of the district administration, Tk2 lakh in cash and other necessary costs for burying the bodies are being given to their relatives.”
A devastating fire broke out at container reportedly containing chemical at BM Container Depot in Bhatiari area under Sitakunda upazila in the district around 10:30pm on Saturday (June 4).
The fire spread fast engulfing the adjoining containers following an explosion.
On information, 24 firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control around 7:30 am on Sunday (June 5).
The incident left so many people including workers, on-duty cops and firemen burnt.
