7 burnt as fire breaks out in Narayanganj cotton factory

Seven workers of a cotton factory suffered burn injuries as fire broke out in Narayanjganj’s Bandar.



Narayanganj, Nov 19 :  Seven workers of a cotton factory suffered burn injuries as fire broke out in Narayanjganj’s Bandar.

The incident occurred on Friday morning in Dhamgor Monirbari area.

Upon information, four units of fire service rushed to the spot to put out the fire.

The seven have been admitted to Sheikh Hasina Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

And seven others injured by the smoke were given first aid.

It was learned that the fire started from a cotton making machine at 7.30 am on Friday.

Cotton mill owner Jewel Hossain said the cotton from his mill was exported abroad. Fire damaged four units of the mill, including machines, cotton and raw materials, causing a loss of about Tk 13 crore.

More than 200 workers worked in his mill but now they will be unemployed as the mill was damaged in the fire, he said.

The workers injured in the fire have been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital by the mill authorities, he added.

Abdul Hossain, station officer of Bandar Fire Service, said that they rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after two hours of effort. "It took a long time to put out the fire," he said.

However, the amount of damage can be ascertained after investigation, he added,reports.
