Ctg road mishap: Death toll rises to 3

Earlier, a pick-up van loaded with trees and two vans carrying bakery products were parked on the side of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Sufia Road area.



The death toll from the accident in Chattogram's Mirsharai upazila on Tuesday has risen to three after an injured died while undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

The deceased was identified as Shahidul Islam, 33, son of Sydul Haque.

Earlier, a pick-up van loaded with trees and two vans carrying bakery products were parked on the side of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Sufia Road area.

Around 10:00 am, a Chattogram-bound covered van hit the three vehicles from behind and twisted them, leaving two persons dead on the spot and four others injured.

The deceased were pickup driver Iqbal Hossain, 45, and Mohammad Farid, 42.

The injured were rescued and taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where Shadidul succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

Zorarganj Highway Police Station in-charge Sohel Sarkar said the covered van driver has been arrested.

Preparation is underway to file a case in this regard, he added.
