Two die 'inhaling toxic gas' in Gazipur

Mahbub Hossain, in-charge of Sreepur Fire Station, said being informed they went to the spot and recovered the bodies at 6.50pm.



Two workers reportedly died after inhaling toxic gas inside a septic tank in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur on Wednesday evening.

Quoting locals, Saruj Mia, duty officer of Sreepur Fire Service, said the two workers --Mokhles, 40, of Netrakona and Masum, 24, of Thakurgaon--got inside a septic tank at a house in Bormi area of Sreepur municipality around 5:25pm to clean the tank and did not come out after nearly an hour.

Mahbub Hossain, in-charge of Sreepur Fire Station, said being informed they went to the spot and recovered the bodies at 6.50pm.

He said they suspected that the workers might have died due to inhalation of the poisonous gas accumulated inside the septic tank.

Mohammad Shah Zaman, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station, acknowledging the matter said the bodies would be sent to a hospital for autopsy.
