A deadly gas cylinder explosion claimed the lives of two individuals and left two others critically injured at a refueling station in Laxmipur Sadar upazila early Wednesday morning.

The victims were identified as Md Rubel, the 35-year-old bus driver from Charshita village in Ramgati upazila, and Abul Kalam, a 40-year-old passenger and painter from Sahapur area under Laxmipur municipality. Both were killed in the explosion.

Two others, Abul Hossain and Nayeem, sustained severe burns and were rushed to Noakhali Sadar Hospital for treatment, according to local health officials.

The incident occurred around 3:50 am at the Green Leaf Filling Station in Muktiganj area, when the bus was refueling. Witnesses reported hearing a loud blast as the gas cylinder in the bus exploded, causing widespread panic and damage.

Dr. Joynal Abedin, a physician at Laxmipur Sadar Hospital, confirmed that Kalam died at the scene, while Rubel succumbed to his injuries while being transferred to a hospital in Dhaka.

Local authorities, including Deputy Commissioner Rajib Kumar Sarkar and Superintendent of Police Aktar Hossain, visited the site later in the morning. The DC assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted and that financial assistance would be provided to the victims’ families.

This incident follows a similar tragedy on October 14, when three people lost their lives and nine others were injured in another gas cylinder explosion at a bus in the district. Authorities have expressed concern over recurring safety issues at refueling stations.

The investigation is ongoing.
